Located between the Piazza della Signoria and the Arno, the stunning Uffizi Gallery contains priceless Renaissance art, much of it gifted to the city by the last surviving Medici. Built originally as offices for magistrates and later opened as a public gallery (in 1765), this elegant museum has 101 rooms of art and sculpture by such masters as Giotto, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, Rembrandt and Botticelli – including Botticelli’s Birth of Venus. Later head to the smaller Accademia Gallery, built to house Michelangelo’s David (the original!) as well as works of other Italian sculptors and artists such as Uccello, Ghirlandaio, Botticelli and del Sarto.
