Cinque Terre

About Cinque Terre

Visitors are awed by spectacular Cinque Terre (Five Lands), named for the five medieval villages that cling to the steep and stony Ligurian coastline. Hemmed in  by cliffs and ravines, these isolated villages reveal themselves with sudden drama – a patchwork of sorbet-colored buildings, distinctive shops and trattorias, and ancient terraced vineyards, olive and lemon groves. They are connected by shared history, by scenic footpaths, by small ferries through tiny harbors, by train since the early 20th century, and just barely, by car. Monterosso, Vernazza, Manarola and Riomaggiore embrace the sea. Corniglia, atop a promontory, is the sentinel high above. This is a legendary Italian destination – don’t miss it!
