The Principality of Monaco

About The Principality of Monaco

The Principality of Monaco is the world’s second smallest country (after Vatican City) and the most densely populated. It stashes 38,400 people, a full 30% of whom are millionaires or billionaires, into a mere 202 hectares – about 500 acres. With hillside Belle Époque and high rise architecture facing the Ligurian Sea, it presents a luxurious and pleasured face. Prince Albert II, son of Rainer & Grace Kelly, rules this constitutional monarchy. It is most noted for its world-famous casino at Monte Carlo, its Formula One Grand Prix and its status as a tax haven – a siren call to the rich and famous … and James Bond!

Expand your horizons… Monaco is surrounded on three sides – north, east and west – by France, and by the Ligurian Sea to the south. It is only 16 km (9 miles) from the border of the Italian Riviera. Combine it easily with jet-set Portofino or the pastel villages of Cinque Terre, both in Liguria, or with the Shroud of Turin and Barolo and Barbaresco wine tasting, both in Piedmont.
