Drive through panoramic countryside to the astonishing megalithic archaeological sites around Barumini, including UNESCO-listed Su Nuraxi. Explore traces of an unknown ancient people (Bronze to early Iron Age) including a warren of well-preserved homes, wells, theaters and temples as well as a massive tower (basalt blocks laid beehive-style without mortar, 19 meters/61 feet high), ramparts and fortifications. Visit the museum of Casa Zapata, a palazzo built atop an excavated ancient nuraghe, and the Domus de Janas, a burial ground predating the nuraghes – 5000 years old! Continue to Giara di Gesturi, a nature reserve noted for native flora and wild horses. Return to Cagliari for a panoramic city tour.
