While Islam left its traces in Southern Italy from the 9th to 12th centuries, Muslims didn’t return to Italy in large numbers until modern days. Discover Islamic Rome at the impressive Great Mosque, located at the foot of Mount Parioli. With an exterior of travertine and cotto brick that references traditional Roman architecture and an interior of glazed tiles, it is the largest mosque in the western world, accommodating 12,000 worshipers. Later enjoy a driving tour of the treasures of Rome including the Roman and Imperial Forums, the Colosseum (not inside), Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and the gorgeous Trevi Fountain. Finish with lunch at a favorite halal Restaurant.
