Guided tour of MUSABA (MUseum of SAnta BArbara), an eye-popping art destination in Mammola in the Aspromonte foothills. The brainchild of artists Nik Spatari and Hiske Maas, it’s a richly rewarding indoor and outdoor conceptual studio of mosaics, bold paintings, audacious sculpture – a melding of traditions, a work in progress. The artists took over an abandoned 17-acre site that contained a ruined monastery built over a church, built over a Roman bath. Spatari’s “Dream of Jacob” has been called the ‘Sistine Chapel of Calabria.’ Farmhouse lunch followed by a tour of Gerace, a medieval town of Byzantine churches and monasteries.
