San Gimignano and Siena are ancient towns, with San Gimignano difficult to access without a car. The hilltop walled town of San Gimignano features at least a dozen preserved tower houses as well as outstanding medieval architecture. Taste Vernaccia here, the famous local wine, and shop its many boutiques for saffron and painted Tuscan ceramics. Siena’s historical prominence is immediately apparent in its grandeur. It is famous for its stunning Duomo, medieval buildings, shell-shaped central Piazza del Campo, Museums, Cuisine and the famous Palio horse race held twice a year. Enjoy wandering its narrow streets and browsing its boutiques.
