A sense of place expressed in its food and wine

Tour the Salumificio Maison Bertolin, an artisan producer of cured meats since 1957. This family-owned business produces Aostan specialties such as lardo d’Arnad DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) and sausages made of pork, beef, horse and game. In the afternoon, follow the Roman road to the medieval village of Donnas, replete with fortified houses, hospices and mysterious frescoes. Here the Caves Coopératives de Donnas, a DOC (Denomination of Controlled Origin) wine-making cooperative, continues a 900-year tradition of grape-growing. Napoleon tasted wine in Donnas! They produce 150,000 bottles annually, including Donnas, Barmet, Rosé, Donnas Supérieur and Pinot Gris.
